New representation for Ernst & Young's tax desks in the US and UK

In the current challenging environment, executives are looking to align their global tax position with their overall business strategy to maintain competitive advantage and provide value to shareholders. Through a globally integrated network of foreign tax desks Ernst & Young helps you manage your international tax requirements.

As of January 2012 we have new representation in the Belgium tax desk in the United States. Senior Manager Arne Smeets will be head of the New York based Belgium tax desk for the next 2 to 3 years. The Belgium tax desk in New York was set up in 1997 and we have had a consistent presence there since. Advising US investors on Belgian tax matters, Arne will be continuously backed up by a Belgian senior consultant or manager for periods of 4 months, based on a consistently running rotation system.

Based in London, the Belgium tax desk in the United Kingdom will be lead by Belgian tax specialist Sven Verschueren. Certified as a Belgian tax counsel as well as a US LLM he is perfectly qualified to advise both on Belgian & US tax matters to UK multinationals and financial institutions.

Adding to Ernst & Young’s international network is a new US representative in Belgium, specialized in tax accounting and risk advisory. Janie Golde from our US firm will join us in February and will be in Belgium for 2 to 3 years. Janie holds degrees in both US taxation and US tax accounting and will help American companies and European headquarters of US multinationals that operate in a Belgian context.
Ernst & Young foreign tax desk network

Foreign tax desks are senior foreign tax specialists seconded from their home jurisdiction to work as one integrated team with other desks and with local tax experts. Tax desks are able to provide our clients “on the spot” international tax advice.

Multidisciplinary teams help assess tax strategies and exposures, assist with international tax issues, from forward planning, through reporting, to maintaining effective relationships with the tax authorities. Our talented people draw on their global insights and perspectives to help our clients build proactive and integrated global tax strategies that address the tax risks of today's businesses and achieve sustainable growth.
